Missionaries all safe but one LDS Member killed
The LDS Church indicated yesterday that all LDS
Church missionaries serving in Columbia are safe, in spite of a 6.0 quake
that hit Armenia, Columbia. However, one member of the LDS Church, a mother of two children, was killed in the quake. An LDS chapel was also damaged.
Montclair mourns death of missionary
Elder Joshua Prymak, who died Monday, January 18th when a wave knocked him
into rocks and swept him out to sea, had wiggled out of life-or-death
situations before. However, this time Prymak's body was recovered three days
later, and his family thinks he must have died instantly, when the wave
slammed his body into the rocks.
Funeral services Saturday in Utah and Virginia for 2 LDS Missionaries
The funerals for two LDS missionaries that drowned in the Canary Islands on
January 18th have been set. The funeral of Elder Jaarl Michael Papenfuss
will be held at the Moroni Stake Center in Moroni, Utah on Saturday, January
30th.
Mormon Northwest Hospital President Relinquishes Role to Pursue Personal Mission
James D. Hart has resigned as President of Northwest
Hospital in Seattle, Washington to serve as a Mission President. Hart will
be replaced byt the current CEO, who will add the duties of President to his
own.
Mormons choose Apex for site of their North Carolina temple
Construction on the Raleigh North Carolina Temple is
expected to begin next week on a site in Apex, North Carolina. The temple is
one of the smaller or "suburban" temples, according to this article. Apex is
centrally located between Raleigh and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Mormon leaders win battle to build spire atop temple
The Williamson County Board of Zoning Appeals granted the LDS
Church's request for a height variance, allowing the Church to put a steeple
on the Temple planned for the Nashville area. The variance ends a four-year
saga in which the Church first tried to build a Temple in the Forest Hills
suburb of Nashville, only to have planning officials thwart rezoning requests.
Mormons walk the walk for their faith
Elders Jason Jones and Dustin Tanner were interviewed for this look at
missionary life. These Elders serve in the California Oakland Mission, which
currently has 190 missionaries covering an area that stretches from
Brentwood to Berkeley and from Livermore to Union City. The mission includes
24,000 of the 785,000 members throughout the state of calfiornia.

national average, even some LDS temple marriages end in divorce.
