LDS Missionary Interviewed from Taichung, Taiwan

Summarized by Derrick Roach

LDS Missionary Interviewed from Taichung, Taiwan

During the telephone interview an aftershock struck. Elder Meyers related his experience and how he felt during the earthquake. He spoke of how he had traveled to the nearby city of Longjing where he saw a 12 story building which had collapsed. He reported making his way to the front lines of this scene to help assist the survivors and rescue people from the building. He saw numerous dead bodies being pulled from the rubble.

Elder Meyers told of how he could hear people trapped inside calling for help. He said he did not believe that the trapped people he heard survived.

The ABC Nightline program had obtained a picture of Elder Meyers. He was shown dressed in a standard missionary suit with his missionary name tag. The telephone interview lasted only a few minutes.
