LDS Church-backed Seattle Amendment Makes Ballot
An amendment to the King County, Washington charter backed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other religions in the Seattle area will appear on the ballot in the county in November. The County Council agreed to put the measure on the ballot Monday in an 11-2 vote in spite of critics who said that the measure is irrelevant, since it contains the same language that is already in the state constitution.

Matheson Losing in Utah Redistricting
Utah Democrats claim the urban-rural redistricting is a ploy to break up Democratic strongholds. Republican leaders claim the mix of urban and rural concerns makes for a united congressional delegation.

Conservative Councilman Changing Gilbert, Arizona
Conservative Dave Petersen is not what you would expect in a Gilbert, Arizona town councilman. Bob Hicken, owner of ArizonaWest Contracting Corp. in Mesa has worked with Petersen on construction jobs for more than a decade. "Dave is a man of his word, kind of plain folk, not very fancy, and he talks a little bit slow," Hicken said, adding he was surprised when Petersen ran for public office. "Typically, people who do that kind of thing are more flashy."
