Sports: Terrorist Attack Interrupts Sports
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Just as the football season started, along with
Mormon News' expanded coverage of Mormons playing in the NFL, the
terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon shut
down most sports for the week. While a few baseball games were played
the day before the attacks, no games were played until today. The
NFL's 2nd week games were also cancelled, as was the PGA and senior
tour events during the weekend and many college events.
Among Mormon players, only pitcher Kyle Farnsworth was involved in a
game last week, going one inning without giving up a run. All other
Mormons in professional sports were idle.
