BYU Coach LaVell Edwards' signature on a new five-year contract
extension opens the possibility that Edwards can enter one of
football's most exclusive groups, head coaches that have won 300
games. After Saturday night's game against Virginia, Edwards' career
record stood at 245-92-3. The contract extension means that Edwards
could coach another 70 games.
Only four college head coaches have won more than 300 games. Bear
Bryant (323), Pop Warner (319) and Amos Alonzo Stagg (314) were
joined by Penn State's Joe Paterno last year. Florida State's Bobby
Bowden is also expected to make 300 wins.
