Y. surpasses goal of $250 million - by a bunch
BYU's long-running "Lighting the Way" capital campaign
has raised more than $312 million, far exceeding the campaign's $250
million goal months ahead of schedule. And BYU President Merrill J.
Bateman says that the money will be used to build BYU's influence in
the world. "The goal is to lengthen our reach around the world,"
Bateman said. "We're improving what we do on campus and extending
blessings to others."
HBO takes aim at BYU honor code
PROVO, UTAH - Producers from HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel"
are working on a news story segment that will air Sept. 16 about the
BYU Honor Code and its athletic department's handling of Non-Mormon
athletes, especially African American athletes. The focus will
center around the former BYU player Ronney Jenkins, who withdrew from
school in January following his second Honor Code violation.
Education Week is a feast for families
Visitors rise early in the morning, grab something quick to eat and
march to campus, where they attend classes on a variety of topics. At
the end of the day, they gather in their lawn chairs to eat, relax
and share notes from their classes with family members. More and more
men seem to be participating in Education Week every year - including
those who break away from classes to watch BYU football practices
while their wives attended classes.
Education can be a bit unnerving
