MSI Up Less than Broader Index, AES Falls 47%

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- As U.S. Stocks recovered somewhat from the drop after this month's terrorist attacks, the Mormon Stock Index also rose, but its rise was hampered by AES Corp. which dropped by half its value after indicating that its earnings wouldn't meet expectations. The MSI rose just over 3% for the week, while the Dow Jones Industrials, NASDAQ and NYSE composite were all up more than 7%.

The increase was broadbased, spread among 26 of the 35 stocks on the index. Just eight stocks were down, with Franklin Covey and Corvis joining AES Corp. with significant declines. On the positive side, Monaco Coach and Skywest led the up stocks, with Monaco jumping nearly 70% last week and Sky West recovering by 50%, but still leaving both well below their September 10th prices.
