Lethbridge Stakes To Perform Service

LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CANADA -- In their monthly newsletter, the Lethbridge Alberta West Stake announced 16 June 2001 as the day for the fourth annual Tri-Stake Day of Service.

Since 1998, the Lethbridge Alberta Stake, the Lethbridge Alberta East Stake and the Lethbridge Alberta West Stake have been spending one morning at the end of spring each year performing service throughout the cities which make up the three stakes. While both the Lethbridge and the Lethbridge West Stakes both only have wards within city boundaries, the Lethbridge East Stake has units in the outlying communities of Coaldale, Stirling, Warner, Foremost and Coutts.

Most of the service this year, as in years past, will be the spreading of mulch in many of the cities parks. In addition, the city has asked that fertilizer sticks be planted throughout the city and that some playgrounds have their sand replaced with pea gravel. Last year, difficulties arose that prevented the sand from being replaced.

In addition, many local members unable to perform physical labour (or those who prefer otherwise) will be making quilts in both Westside family ward meetinghouses and the Lethbridge Stake Centre near the Enmax Centre. Quilts will later be distributed to Victim's Services, Lethbridge Family Services, Harbour House and Southern Alcare Manor.

Public Affairs committees from the three stakes are requesting, in addition to the service already mentioned, donations of 1000$ to purchase quilt batting, 200 twin sheets and yarn and crochet cotton. Members are asked to contact their ward or stake public affair representatives for further information or to make a donation.
