WINTER QUARTERS, NEBRASKA -- The LDS Church held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday, November 28th for a new Temple at Winter Quarters in Omaha, Nebraska. 3,500 invited guests attended the ceremony.

Elder Hugh W. Pinnock, president of the North America Central Area of the Church presided. Winter Quarters is a historic LDS Church History site, which acted as a staging area for immigration to Utah and as Church headquarters during the initial part of the migration. More than 70,000 Mormon pioneers passed through Winter Quarters on their way to Utah.
