Mrs. Texas, Edrienne Leolani Carpenter, is a member of the LDS Church
and has been competing in the annual Mrs. America pageant held in
Hawaii. Sister Carpenter was scheduled to compete in the preliminary
competition this past Sunday, and possibly in the final competition,
held Tuesday evening, September 14th.
Carpenter is the daughter of Hawaiians Edward and Eileen Edwards and
graduated from Waimea High School in 1991. She married Shane
Carpenter after meeting him at BYU and is persuing an MBA at Texas
A&M University along with her husband.
Carpenter believes that the pageant can provide a good example for
women. "The Mrs. America pageant to me really encompasses a
well-rounded woman who has probably already attained many of her
personal goals and her family goals," she said. "The married woman
still can have it all and still can be beautiful and still can be
physically fit and she doesn't have to let herself go after marriage."
