Tait Ready To Sign With Chiefs

Summarized by Kent Larsen

Tait Ready To Sign With Chiefs
Associated Press 9Sep99 L3
By Doug Tucker: AP Sports Writer

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI -- LDS First-round NFL draft pick John Tait will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs today, his father told the Associated Press. Tait has been in a contract dispute with the Chiefs since they drafted him. The dispute was exacerbated last week when Chief's General Manager Carl Peterson blew-up in a negotiation meeting with Tait and his agent Ethan Lock. Offended at what he called 'mistreatment,' Tait stormed out of the meeting and returned to Arizona.

Tait will be in Kansas City today to look over the contract one more time before signing it. However, Tait will be there alone. At the request of the Chiefs, Tait's agent won't be there. "A decision was made jointly with the Chiefs that because of the problems and all the excitement last time, it might be better to try to circumvent that this time. So his agents stayed home," said Tait's father, Alan.
