Religious-protection bill backed by legal experts
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A new version of the LDS Church-supported
Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which was largely struck down by
the U.S. Supreme Court, has passed the U.S. House of Representatives
and is being shepherded through the U.S. Senate by Utah Senator Orrin
Hatch. More importantly, constitutional experts say that this time
around the bill should pass constitutional muster.
In Texas, schools hold out faith for pregame prayer
With the start of the High School football season
in Texas, students and High School officials felt pressure because of
a 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that prohibited prayers at High
School sporting events. Traditionally, pre-game prayers are said over
the stadium public-address system. Because of the tradition, Texas
Governor George W. Bush is supporting an appeal to the U.S. Supreme
Court.

LDS Clothier Mac Christensen, back from a stint as Director of the
LDS Visitors Center in Washington, D.C., is back pitching again. In
addition to working with his own stores, Christensen is featured in
an ad for Senator Orrin Hatch, helping Hatch raise funds for his
campaign for President of the United States.

Salt Lake Tribune reporters Rolly and Wells say that Highland High
School evidently needs to learn a little more about separation of
church and state. Evidently, the school's Student Art and Activities
Calendar for 1999-200 includes the dates of General Conference.
