BUENA VISTA, VIRGINIA -- Southern Virginia College has named Dr. E.
Curtis Fawson as president, the school announced yesterday. Fawson
has served as provost and executive vice president at SVC since
January 1998, and has been acting president during a three-month
search to replace David Ferrel, who resigned in March to return to
business consulting.
Ferrel was one of a group that purchased the college in 1996,
switching it to a school that uses LDS Church principles in its
operations. Fawson, 57, is credited with expanding the school's
curriculum into a more comprehensive liberal arts program and adding
a major in computer-assisted design. Before coming to SVC, Fawson was
director of the Instructional Technology Center at BYU.
Fawson was selected out of a field of 50 applicants in a nationwide search.
