Sarkisian on the spot as team savior

Summarized by Nicholas Maddox

Sarkisian on the spot as team savior
Edmonton Alberta Canada Sun 20Aug99 L3
By Con Griwkowsky: Edmonton Sun

REGINA, Sasketchewan -- Former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian, who broke all of Steve Young's records at BYU, has been playing for the CFL's Edmonton Roughriders for the past two years. After playing back up to starting quarterback Reggie Slack, Sarkisian is getting some valuable playing time in the starting position while Slack is out battling a medical addiction.

"It's a great opportunity for me to get some valuable playing time," said Sarkisian, who quarterbacked the 'Riders' only win this year. "It's a chance for me to go out and show I can play well." But at the same time, Sarkasian is trying to support Slack in his fight, "Reggie's been the leader of this team for three years, so the guys want to support him any way they can. It's also a difficult situation. You want to let a guy handle his personal business on a personal level. If he needs that support, it's there from our team, without a doubt."
