Short-hitting Reid finds his range

Short-hitting Reid finds his range
Denver CO Rocky Mountain News 22Aug99 L3
By Steve Trivett: Special to the Denver Rocky Mountain News

CASTLE ROCK, COLORADO -- Cherry Hills Golf Course, Sprint International Invitational Tournament: Mike Reid, the former Cherry Creek High School, (in Denver) and Brigham Young University golf star is the exception to the rule for the high altitude tournament, which is more suited for a superman duffer who can knock the ball a mile long, a mile high and putt the eyes out of a gnat. At 45 years old, the 5-foot-9 and 160 pound Reid looks more like an accountant than a young superstar golfer. He even has teen-aged children.

Though his 23-year PGA Tour career does included two victories, he is not known as a powerhouse long-ball hitter. However, he is doing well on this course. It is his home turf and he is use to dealing with the realities of playing at high altitude, and is doing better this round than the likes of golf notables of Davis Love III and Tiger Woods and is positioned to be in the final cut on Sunday.
