Initiative foes up the ante ($300K for CA Marriage Campaign)
With one donation, opponents of the Knight initiative may have
achieved some fundraising parity. At a fundraising event August 15th,
Kathy Levinson and her partner Jennifer Levinson donated $300,000 to
fight the anti-gay-rights initiative.
LDS Letter Brings Questions, Even by Members
Members of the LDS Church in California are worried, and some
offended, at fund-raising letters they have received from local
Church leaders requesting funds to support the Knight initiative. The
initiative would ban recognition of gay marriages, including those
performed outside of California, in the state.
NAACP Demands Apology From Bennett
U.S. Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah), a member of the LDS Church, is
getting a lot of heat for what civil rights leaders claim was a
"racist" statement he made last week. The Salt Lake NAACP has called
for Bennett to apologize for his remarks and others are expressing
shock at his statement.
Boy Scouts mull anti-gay position
"On my honor...I will be morally straight." So says the Scout Oath of the
Boy Scouts of America. But how does being morally straight pertain to
those who claim to be homosexual? The Minnesota Boy Scout council proposed
at the Boy Scouts' national council meeting in San Diego last May that the
organization launch a year-long study to look into what causes
homosexuality and whether BSA should change its policy banning
homosexuals.
