Due to increased usage of LDS canning factories in Utah, new controls have
been initiated to help users. A member wishing to use the canning facility
must now make reservations through the Stake rather than the ward, as before.
Jo Thompson of the Church's welfare services said that although their mission
statement is to assist members of the Church to be self-reliant, that Y2K
has caused a lot of panic and changes had to be made in the way the cannery
was scheduled.
Bishop Jerry Cluff at the Spanish Fork facility said "We were overwhelmed
before, but now everyone has a chance to get in. They just have to go through
the stake. It is much more organized and very fair. The stakes are all using
the new plan and it is advantageous to everyone."
