Layden thanks Mormon people (The great goodbye)
Deseret News 11Aug99 C9
By Doug Robinson: Deseret News sports writer
After 18 years with the Utah Jazz, Scott Layden has left to work for
the New York Knicks. But Layden is leaving with kind words of thanks
for members of the LDS Church. His words were meant for "particularly
the people of the Mormon faith," whom he credited for teaching him
values and how to raise a family.
Ironically, Layden is not leaving Mormons behind completely. His new
job at the Knicks reports to Dave Checketts, a member of the LDS
Church. Checketts knew Layden as president of the Utah Jazz before he
left in 1989.
