Pres. Hinckley dedicates LDS temple in Ecuador
GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR - The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple was dedicated on
Sunday in dedicatory sessions held Sunday and Monday that included
5,055 members of the Church in Ecuador. Members there have waited
since the Temple was announced by President Spencer W. Kimball in
March 1982, the longest waiting period for a temple that was
completed this century.
President Hinckley dedicated the Temple and conducted the dedication
ceremonies. Also attending the dedication were President James E.
Faust of the First Presidency and Elder Russell M. Nelson of the
Quorum of the Twelve.
Ecuador was only opened to missionary work in 1965, but has since
grown to include 170,000 members of the Church. Members there were
very pleased to have the Temple dedicated, "This is a very sublime
moment and one of the best experiences in my life," said temple
committee vice chairman Guillermo Granja.
