60 volunteers from the Lakewood Ward were among hundreds of
volunteers participating in Colorado Cares Day, a day of service
planned near the anniversary of Colorado's acceptance into the United
States. The LDS Church volunteers fixed up the Family Tree battered
women's shelter, painting, doing yard work and cleaning the building.
The ward moved its annual service day from July 24th to July 31st to
participate in the Colorado Cares day. "We all belong to the
community, and we all contribute, and this is a day to contribute in
a positive way," said ward activities chair Jennifer Anderson.
Other volunteers included Colorado Governor Bill Owens and his
family, and hundreds of other Coloradans.
