Missionary Hit By Car, Killed in South Africa

Elder Richard Keith Black, 19, was killed in Capetown, South Africa on Saturday, July 24th when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle. Elder Black was life-flighted to a hospital but died before arriving. His companion, Elder Tyler Erickson, witnessed the accident, but was not hurt, according to LDS Church spokesman Dale Bills.

Elder Black was a graduate of Mrray High School, in Murray Utah earning straight A's in school, except for one A-minus. He stood out among his peers for his energy and enthusiasm. "He was the type of young man who would just go for things 110 percent," said Bishop Mark Dietlein of the Riverside 5th Ward in Murray, Black's home ward.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Elder Black's family was vacationing in California at the time of the accident.
