AMES, IOWA -- Iowa State quarterback prospect Ben Dougherty will begin
serving an LDS mission on June 16th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dougherty had
originally planned to serve a mission following graduation, but he now says
that the time is rght to serve a mission, "I just thought about it and
prayed about it a lot," he said.
Dougherty says that his current position onthe team has nothing to do with
the decision. As a freshman last year, Dougherty couldn't play under NCAA
rules. He was slated to be the Iowa State Cyclone's 3rd string quarterback
this coming fall. In order to put himself in position for playing time, he
had also played middle linebacker in spring practice, earning praise from
his coach and teammates for how well he made the transition.
