A Guide for the Perplexed
The Village Voice surveyed religions in New York City, asking basic
information about their size, background, current leaders, costs and
beliefs. The article is done in kind of a consumer-oriented fashion; a guide
to the beliefs for those that are looking for something to join.
The LDS Church is included along with a fairly accurate portrayal of LDS
beliefs, including the LDS Church's positions on Women in the Church,
Homosexuality, Abortion, Euthanasia, Interfaith Marriage and Millenialism.
It also gives a 'Scandal Sheet,' which indicates that while the LDS Church
allowed blacks to be ordained to the priesthood in 1978, critics still
charge that the Church hasn't repudiated the pre-1978 teachings about blacks.
