Bodies of LDS Missionaries Are Recovered From Ocean

Summarized by Kent Larsen

Bodies of LDS Missionaries Are Recovered From Ocean
Salt Lake Tribune 21Jan99
By Bob Mims: Salt Lake Tribune

The bodies of Elders Jaarl Michael Papenfuss and Joshua Matthew Prymak were recovered on Wednesday, January 20th, two days after they drowned. Papenfuss and Prymak were swept out to sea in the incoming tide as they tried to take pictures of incoming breakers.

Sketchy details indicate that Elder Prymak and another missionary were knocked off the rocks by a wave. When Elder Prymak didn't make it back, Papenfuss went in after him.

The Elders were serving in the Spain Las Palmas Mission. The Canary Islands are provinces of Spain located off the northern coast of West Africa.
