Missionaries Swept Into Sea

Summarized by Kent Larsen

Missionaries Swept Into Sea
Salt Lake Tribune 20Jan99

Two LDS Missionaries are missing and presumed drowned on Monday, January 18th in the Canary Islands. Elders Jaarl Michael Papenfuss, 20, of Fountain Green, Utah, and Joshua Matthew Prymak, 19, Montclair, Virginia were standing on rocks on the shore when the incoming tide swept them out to sea.

Other missionaries that were with ELders Papenfuss and Prymak notified authorities and a helicopter search began. The search continued on Tuesday.

The Canary Islands are part of the Spain Las Palmas Mission. The Islands are Spanish provinces located off the coast of West Africa.
