Due to stiff competition, former baseball star Dale Murphy,
currently serving as president of the Boston Massachusettes
Mission, wasn't even close to being inducted into Baseball's
Hall of Fame. Murphy drew just 96 votes (19.3% of 497 possible)
from the Baseball Writers Association of America, putting him
in 11th place in the balloting. To be inducted into the Hall
of Fame, players must receive 75% of the votes.
However, this was Murphy's first year of eligibility. Many of
those in the Hall of Fame don't make it in their first year.
