Internet: Avard Fairbanks Site, Missionary Trading Cards and More Modest Clothing and LDS Singles Sites
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The onslaught of sites selling modest clothing
and providing dating services to LDS singles continues, with Modest
By Design and KneeShorts.com getting added to LDS directories this
week in clothing while LDS Pals and LDS Mingle Online are added as
dating services. More interesting is the tribute site to LDS Sculptor
Avard Fairbanks, and the Missionary Trading Cards website.
Fairbanks is probably best known for his sculpture of the Angel
Moroni, which was placed on the Washington DC Temple as well as
elsewhere. But other works are more touching, such as his
heart-wrenching "Winter Quarters" which shows parents burying their
new-born child in a shallow grave.
The idea of Missionary Trading Cards isn't particularly unique, but I
believe this is the first site to sell cards on the Internet, and the
cards they sell differ from the familiar format that missionaries
that pass through the MTC have used for more than 20 years. These
cards seem more flexible in what can be put on the card, including a
home address as well as a mission address, and allowing missionaries
to select from country-themed images in addition to the sacred
artwork included on standard article-of-faith cards.
