LDS Conference Center Roof Closed After Child Falls
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints closed the roof of its new Conference Center amid safety concerns early this week. A four-year-old boy climbed a railing Monday and fell 21 feet off the side of the building, landing on his head. The boy, Jesse Owens of Taylor, Arizona, was listed in fair condition Wednesday at Primary Childrens Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Returned Missionaries Plan Trip for Japan Centennial
A group of returned missionaries who served in Japan are planning to take part in centennial celebrations for the 1901 dedication of Japan by then-Apostle Heber J. Grant. The group plans to leave the US during the last week of August and fly to Japan for the September 1st Centennial Celebration.

1880 U.S. Census on CD-ROM Contains Over 50 Million Names
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the release of the 1880 U.S. Census on CD-ROM, a major research tool for family history enthusiasts.

Brigham Young's 200th Birthday Celebrated
A celebration was held Friday, June 1, honoring the 200th birthday of Brigham Young, second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At a luncheon sponsored by This Is the Place State Park and funded by George S. and Delores Dore Eccles Foundation, President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke Friday evening at the Mormon Tabernacle on Temple Square.
