Two LDS Basketball Players Left in NBA Playoffs

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The NBA playoffs have led to the elimination of two more LDS basketball players, leaving just rookie Mark Madsen and the Milwaukee Bucks' Mark Pope in the playoffs. Shawn Bradley and the Dallas Mavericks were eliminated last week when they lost their playoff series to San Antonio, while Scot Pollard and the Sacramento Kings lost their series to the Madsen's Lakers.

Meanwhile, baseball players Wally Joyner and Jeff Kent both had better-than-average weeks, bringing up their batting averages to more respectable levels. Joyner added another seven RBIs, bringing his total to 30. For the four active pitchers who are Mormon, only Shawn Estes had a strong week, giving up just one run over eight innings last week, bringing down his ERA to 3.56. Omar Olivares suffered through a bad outing, giving up four runs in four innings, while relief pitchers, Kyle Farnsworth and Mike Fetters, gave up two runs each in two innings or less of work.

Senior PGA Tour pro Bruce Summerhays also had a strong week, tieing for ninth place in the Enterprise Rent-a-car Match Play Championship, as did PGA Tour member Mike Weir, who tied for 11th in the Verizon Byron Nelson Classic. Meanwhile, the Carolina Courage's Maren Hendershot was benched, and used for just six minutes as a substitute in the Courage's game against the Bay Area CyberRays.
