MSI: Mormon Stock Index Down Broadly, following NASDAQ

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The Mormon Stock Index dropped more than 5% last week as the tech stocks in the index dropped broadly, accompanied by downturns among some of the major New York Stock Exchange listings. AES Corp. and Dell both contributed to the drop, which was offset by few, if any stocks. Just four of the 31 stocks on the Index were up for the week.

The largest declines in the index included Myriad Genetics, which fell more than 18% after it announced a joint venture with Hitachi and Oracle to map the human proteome. The venture faces significant competition from two other partnerships. Novell fell more than 21% for the week. Also down more than 10% were AES, Computerized Thermal Imaging, Corvis and Iomega.
