  LDS Fire Department Chaplain Sees Ventura Tragedies
Six years ago Larry Modugno, 56, a deacon at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Camarillo, started the Ventura County Fire Department's Chaplaincy program, providing chaplains to help survivors of tragedy deal with grief and serve as spiritual advisors at these difficult times. One of the chaplains in the program is LDS Church member Tom Wheeler of Moorpark, California.

  LDS Girl Dies In Road-Tubing Tragedy
An 11-year-old LDS girl on an inner tube being towed behind a car died Sunday night after the inner tube was hit by a pickup truck. Mariah Mathia died instantly in the tragedy, which police are using to show the danger of this illegal wintertime sport.

  LDS Teens Record Song Remembering Drunk Driving Victim
This article describes the efforts of four Bozeman, MT teens (three of whom are LDS) to help fellow students remember the death of their friend and a lesson about drinking and driving. The proceeds from their CD recording of, "Come On Back to Me," will be used to buy Fatal Vision googles for the Montana Highway Patrol student drivers program.

  Church Member New Principal
Mel Fletcher remembers Alan Watson School real well. As its new principal, he may have a hard time forgetting it. His office just happens to be the same room in which he was taught Grade One.

  Who Should Be 'Mormon Of The Year?'
With the new year approaching, Mormon News will look back at the major Mormon news stories and people that made news in the past year. As part of this review, we are starting a, hopefully, annual process to name the "Mormon of the Year," the person who has had the biggest impact, good or bad, during the past year on Mormons and on the way Mormons are perceived by others.
