Corvis, Micrel and Myriad Genetics Push MSI Down Again
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- While three quarters of the stocks on the MSI
were down last week, just three stocks accounting for most of the
more than 6% fall in the index. Optical network equipment maker
Corvis fell nearly 20%, as did semiconductor manufacturer Micrel
Semiconductor, while biotech firm Myriad Genetics was off over 17%.
Combined, they accounted for two-thirds of the index's drop.
Corvis is down again as investors still doubt the company's ability
to produce revenue. The stock is also down this week so far after an
analyst report indicated that the market for Corvis' products will
grow just 2% next year.
Micrel Semiconductor and Myriad Genetics were down simply because of
the overall NASDAQ exchange, which fell 9% for the week. Several of
the smaller stocks on the index were also down to a large degree.
Fonix fell 25% and Hollywood Video fell nearly 33%.
Fortunately, two other small stocks jumped more than 30%. Linux
software vendor Caldera beat analysts earnings expectations, leading
its stock price to rise more than 30%, as did Internet software firm
TenFold.
