LDS Professor Named to Dept. of Agriculture Post
Dr. Rodney J. Brown, Dean of the Utah State University College of Agriculture, has been named Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. Dean Brown, an LDS returned missionary who grew up on a dairy farm in Coalville, Utah, will oversee four agencies of the USDA: the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES), the Economic Research Service (ERS) and the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

Republican Challengers to Matheson Multiply
Private businessman David Smith announced last week that he will seek the Republican nomination in Utah's 2nd U.S. House District, adding his name to the list of hopefuls who would challenge Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson, an LDS Church member.

In 1936 sixth grader D. Frank Wilkins was chosen as the model for a patriotic statue, in which the boy points towards the top of a flagpole, while a girl next to him is holding a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
