Sports: Back, Madsen is Hot But Not Playing Much

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Since returning from an injury, the Los Angeles Lakers' Mark Madsen has played 24 minutes over four different games, and has been hot on the court. In what totals to less than half a game, Madsen has scored 12 points and earned three rebounds and is playing at a rate that would give him 30 points if he played a full game. Other Mormons in professional sports aren't playing as strongly, but the basketball player who plays the most, Scot Pollard, played better last week, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Marcus Bell had a strong game and St. Louis Rams tight end Brandon Manumaleuna caught his first pass of the season.

Basketball's Shawn Bradley, meanwhile, had an off week scoring, but did well on rebounds, catching 19 in four games, playing for 63 minutes. The other Mormon players who don't play as often, Travis Knight and Mark Pope, managed to do well in spite of it, Knight managing a basket in just 12 minutes of play, while Pope scored 5 in 16 minutes of play over 3 games.

Among football coaches, every Mormon coach was with a winning team last week, with three of the teams, Philadelphia (Andy Reid), Tennessee (George Henshaw) and Green Bay (Darrell Bevell) racking up near 400 yards.

The Minnesota Wild's Aaron Gavey scored another goal last week, his third of the season, on just two shots on goal. Nashville Predators assistant coach Brent Peterson did better last week, as his team gave up fewer penalties (23 over 4 games for 46 minutes), but the team still lost all four games it played. In golf, all Mormon players were idle for the week.
