New Products: New Testament, Inspiration and Folk Music

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Two recent books look at doctrinal aspects of the New Testament, taking indepth looks at little-examined subjects. Author Bruce E. Dana looks carefully at the life of "Mary, Mother of Jesus" in his new book with that same title. Former BYU dean Robert L. Millet also looks at a New Testament subject in "Lost and Found: Reflections on the Prodigal Son," his latest book.

But "Draw Near Unto Me: Lessons of God's Love" by Steven A. Cramer is quite different from those books. Cramer instead answers questions from the scripture in a way that tries to help readers get nearer to the Savior.

Rounding out the new products this week is Enoch Train's latest CD. Recorded to coincide with the recent Sea Trek, in which the group participated, the CD includes tracks that both evoke and directly mention the epic immigration by sea of more than 80,000 Mormon converts in the last half of the 19th Century.

New and recent products:

Mary, Mother of Jesus by Bruce E. Dana
Cedar Fort
Book; LDS Publisher; Non-fiction; Mormon Author and Subject $16.95

Author Dana has produced the only current LDS book to look exclusively at the life of the mother of our Lord. While little is known about Mary, we do know about the association and conversations between the Savior and his mother. Dana takes the scriptures and words of respected scholars to give readers a glimpse into Mary's everyday life in the Jewish culture. He also shows how she developed her spiritual attributes and her relationship with our Father in Heaven.

Former Dean of Religious Education at BYU Robert L. Millet takes a thorough look at the parable of the prodigal son. The book includes rich historical detail and cultural background, as well as a verse-by-verse (sometimes phrase-by-phrase) commentary that enables the reader to fully understand the parable. It outlines how this New Testament story helps us better understand the plan of salvation and identifies ten vital life lessons that can be gleaned from the parable.
