Hartford Missionaries Overcome Rejection; But are Human, too
Accompanying missionaries as they go door-to-door in Hartford Connecticut, the Hartford Courant's Helen Ubinas sees plenty of rejection, and missionaries that manage to maintain a good attitude in spite of very hard work. Dartmouth Club Denies Mormon Student; Says Mormons Aren't Christian
Saying Mormons are not Christian, the Dartmouth Summer Christian Fellowship has told a Mormon student she can't be a leader in the group. Meredeth Brooks, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had expressed interest in the Summer Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational evangelical group on Dartmouth's campus. While both Brooks and the club claim that they have reached "an understanding," what the campus newspaper, The Dartmouth, calls a "series of miscommunications" had led to a conflict between Brooks and the service club's leaders. Now Dean Stuart Lord of Dartmouth's Tucker Foundation is investigating the conflict.

A 78-year-old Mormon Iron Man
Max Burdick is 78 years old. He stands 5-foot-7 and weighs about 135 pounds. He's also deaf and wears hearing aids in both ears. In fact, he looks much more like the grandfather he is than like a world-class athlete. But amazingly enough, Burdick has proven his athletic prowess by repeatedly participating in one of the most difficult and challenging sports in the world, the triathlon. The triathlon is a grueling competition that combines a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run, all completed back-to-back. The most famous triathlon competition is the Ironman held each year in Kona, Hawaii and which attracts elite triathletes from all over the world, including Burdick.

LDS Amateur Golfer Preps for PGA with Psychologist, Utah Amateur
The famous baseball player Yogi Berra is often quoted as saying that the game of baseball is "90% mental and the other half is physical." While few can argue with, or even understand, this statement, West Bountiful golfer Scott Hailes firmly believes that the mental part of his game is certainly important enough to focus on. Hailes, who is probably turning pro next year, may be competing in his last Utah Men's State Amateur golf tournament this week. As part of his preparation, Hailes has been working with noted sports psychologist Jay Brunza to help him get his mind focused and his game in shape.
