Sports: Still Seeking Canadian Football League Players

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Since the Canadian Football League started playing last week, we are actively looking to identify the Mormon players in the league. As in previous weeks, we have published a list of possible players, but haven't yet had any identified. If you have any information that may help us, please let me know. Meanwhile, the actively playing Mormons in baseball thinned a little this past week as McKay Christensen was sent back to AAA and Mike Fetters went on the disabled list.

Those exits came just a week after long-time major league player Wally Joyner retired. Christensen went back to AAA after the teammate he replaced came back off the disabled list, but Christensen did managed to get three at bats last week, and worked out a hit. The other Mormon position player, Jeff Kent, hit over .350 for the week, recording 8 hits over 22 at bats, earning 4 RBIs and a home run.

Meanwhile, the remaining Mormon pitchers seemed to all fall apart last week. Shawn Estes gave up 3 earned runs over 5 innings, while Kyle Farnsworth gave up 2 earned runs in an inning and 2/3rds. Orioles starter Jason Johnson gave up 5 runs over 4 2/3rds innings. The only bright spots were Fetters, who didn't give up anything in a single inning before he was put on the DL. Omar Olivares also pitched well in 5 2/3rds innings of relieve over three different games. In those innings, Olivares gave up just 1 earned run..

In the WNBA, action picked up a little for Kristen Rasmussen, who actually got to play nearly 15 minutes a game, and scored six points. In contrast, Natalie Williams continues her hot streak, bringing her average to nearly 15 points per game, and over 27 points per 60 minutes of playing time. In the WUSA, Maren Hendershot remains a Carolina Courage substitute, playing 11 minutes of the team's game, but failing to record any shots or points.

In golf, Jay Don Blake, Keith Clearwater and Mike Reid all played in the Buick Classic, with Reid's 76th place finish besting the others. Richard Zokol stuck to the Buy.com tour, while the golfers on the Senior tour remained idle.
