MSI: MSI Drops, But Less Than Market

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The Mormon Stock Index fell 3 1/4% last week to 117.72, along with most US stocks, but it fell less than the NASDAQ (down 8.4% last week). Leading the down stocks this week was Corvis Corp., which dropped 26%, but their decline was offset somewhat by AES Corp., which gained a modest 3 3/4%.

Several other stocks also contributed to the drop in the index, which included 17 down stocks and 12 gainers. Avista Corp., Franklin Covey, Micrel Semiconductor, Myriad Genetics and Swift Transportation all fell more than 10%.

Meanwhile, Mormon News learned of another public company with an executive with Mormon heritage. MetalClad Corporation President and CEO Grant Kesler is a former Utah Assistant Attorney General and former member of the LDS Church. MetalClad provides insulation and asbestos abatement services and recently won a $15.6 million settlement from Mexico. However, MetalClad's market capitalization doesn't meet the $100 million requirement for inclusion in the Mormon Stock Index.
