MSI: AES, Dell drive Mormon Stock Index Up

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Sharp rises at AES Corp. and Dell Computer drove the Mormon Stock Index up nearly 8% last week for a gain that exceeded the Dow Jones Industrials and Standard &Poors, but fell short of the NASDAQ gain. The index was also helped by large gains from Corvis, Cadence Design, Micrel and Myriad Genetics.

The gains came as the general market rebounded. Among stocks on the Mormon Stock Index, 19 rose for the week, while just seven fell. The most remarkable rises were at Corvis, Micrel and Myriad Genetics, all of which rose more than 30% for the week. All three stocks have fallen substantially in recent weeks due to both a lack of confidence in high tech issues, and to their own troubles, especially in the case of Corvis, whih has seen pre-IPO holders sell substantial stakes recently, keeping its price low.
