Announcement and Call for Papers: 2001 DC Sunstone Symposium

ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL for PAPERS

Plus registration form and hotel information

Volunteers needed for various tasks before and during the symposium Write us at SunstoneDC@aol.com if you can help

Please join us for the 2001 Washington, DC Sunstone Symposium. We promise an inviting line-up of guest speakers, local presenters, humorists, and musicians. In response to requests from many of you last year, more time will be built into the schedule for mingling with fellow attendees and for browsing the book and audio-tape tables.

The symposium will be held in a convenient, modern facility (the same location as last year's Friday night festivities), less than a 5-minute walk from the Ballston Metro, a number of restaurants, and the Ballston Common shopping mall and food court. Several hotels are also within easy walking distance.

Look for periodic updates and news concerning the symposium at http://www.geocities.com/sunstonedc/ (It's empty at present...but check back at the end of the month for news about speakers, travel, registration, etc.)

For twenty-five years, Sunstone has been celebrating
MORMON EXPERIENCE, SCHOLARSHIP, ISSUES, &ART
****************************************************************

JOIN WITH us at this year's symposium to celebrate our rich and diverse Mormon thought and culture. You'll reap the insights and share the company of interesting, informed individuals who seek to better understand their faith and religion and to interpret the larger world through it.

THIS SYMPOSIUM is dedicated to the idea that the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ are better understood and, as a consequence, better lived when they are freely and frankly explored within the society of the Saints.

WE RECOGNIZE that the search for things that are, have been, and are to be is a sifting process in which much chaff will have to be inspected and threshed before wheat can be harvested.

IN SPONSORING this symposium, we welcome the honest ponderings of Latter-day Saints and their friends and expect that everyone will approach all issues, no matter how difficult, with intelligence and good will.

Why you should attend the Sunstone symposium: ****************************************************************

FAITH. Hear words that inspire Christian living by exploring gospel truths, sharing spiritual journeys, and untying knotty challenges.

COMMUNITY. Meet new friends whose thoughts and experiences parallel yours. The symposium provides a forum for meeting scholars, sharing with others of similar interests, and joining in hallway conversations.

KNOWLEDGE. Learn new strategies to be an intelligent Christian disciple in the (post)modern age, and gain insights in understanding your own journey.

FUN. Wrestle with new, stimulating, and lively viewpoints. Buy the latest books. Wonder at the blooming diversity among God's people.
