Lynn Richards Honored with Hinckley Visit on 100th Birthday

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Over 350 people, including five generations of family members, and LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley, honored former Utah Senator Lynn Richards recently on his 100th birthday. .

Richards served as a Utah state senator in the 1940's, spent nearly 15 years on the state Board of Education and was an officer or member of the board of directors for more than 25 companies, including Sinclair Oil Corp., Sun Valley Co. and Granite Furniture.

Born Feb. 3, 1901, to Irene Merrill Richards and Stephen L. Richards, Richards graduated from BYU in 1925 and earned a law degree from Stanford. In 1924, he married Lucille Covey, a former classmate from LDS High School in Salt Lake City.

"It has been a remarkable life," said Richards' son, L. Stephen Richards. "My father has always been very active in the community. He loves the people of Utah."
