Track & Field Athletes Finish; US Women's Basketball to Play for Gold

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- The competition of Mormon athletes in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games will finish tomorrow with Jared Deacon and the British track team competing in the final of the 4 x 400m relay. Also competing earlier in the day tomorrow are Natalie Williams and the US Women's Basketball team, playing in the gold medal game against Australia after beating Korea yesterday, and Charlene Tagaloa and the US Women's Volleyball team, finishing their competition in the bronze medal game against Brazil.

Four of the five Mormon track and field athletes competing yesterday finished out of the finals, with Amy Palmer's best hammer throw 5m short of the Gold and Jason Pyrah finishing the finals heat in 10th place. Ghanians Kenneth Andam and Leonard Myles-Mills failed to qualify beyond the first round when their team couldn't finish their heat.

The competition tomorrow will also determine the number of medals won by Mormon athletes. So far, Mormon athletes have won two gold medals and a silver. Williams will either win a gold or silver in Basketball, and Tagaloa could win the bronze in Volleyball. All the medals are possible for Jared Deacon, however, Great Britian isn't expected to get a medal.
