Birmingham Temple Dedicated

GARDENDALE, ALABAMA -- The LDS Church's Birmingham Temple was dedicated on Sunday by LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley, and local members got to participate in the traditional cornerstone laying ceremony, which was covered by the Birmingham News. About 2,800 Church members attended the dedicatory ceremonies in the Temple while another 7,000 watched through satellite hookups.

At the cornerstone ceremony, President Hinckley conducted, and even instructed a few of the children helping to cement the stone in place. "Just like making a cake, except put more on the crack and less on the floor," he told one participant. "That's it. Good work." In addition to five children, temple president Allen Rich and his wife, Sandra, and counselor Reid Giles and his wife, Deann, also helped cement the cornerstone.
