Kent & Joyner Have Strong Week

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- LDS baseball players Wally Joyner and Jeff Kent both had a strong week, with Joyner playing full time three games in spite of the fact that the Braves' regular first baseman, Andres Gallaraga has returned from the disabled list. Joyner went 7 for 17 during the week with 7 RBIs, while Kent went 8 for 20 with 4 RBIs, keeping him in the running for the RBI title for the year.

In contrast, Mormon pitchers had a mediocre week. Dodgers relief pitcher Mike Fetters racked up a 9.00 ERA in two innings over two games, giving up a run in each inning and the St. Louis Cardinals' Garret Stephenson managed a mediocre 4.70 ERA in his only start of the week, but got out of the game with a no decision. In contrast, the A's Omar Olivares returned from the disabled list to pitch a single inning of relief, in which he gave up no runs.

Most Mormon golfers were idle this week, as Jay Don Blake and Keith Clearwater trying for the Buick Open but failing to make the cut. Senior Tour member Bruce Summerhays turned in a solid performance, however, coming in 28th in the AT&T Canada Sr. Open, earning $11,745.
