President Hinckley's Brother, Sherman, Dies

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- On August 13, 2000, Sherman B. Hinckley, the 88 year old brother of Gordon B. Hinckley, died of cancer complications.

This mining engineer and businessman was born October 20, 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Salt Lake schools, spent his summers on a farm in the East Mill Creek area of Salt Lake county, then graduated with a degree in mine engineering from the University of Utah in 1933.

In June, 1947, Sherm married France Jo Wadsworth in the Salt Lake Temple. Sherm and Jo raised 7 children together. Jo passed away on January 1, 1985.

On November 22, 1988, Sherm married Eileen Ellis in the Salt Lake Temple. They led busy lives and were very active in the Church. They served missions together in New Zealand and Cove Fort, Utah, where Sherm served as the director of the visitors' center.

As a member of the Monument Park Stake for 47 years, Sherm has also served as High Priest Group Leader in the Monument Park 11th ward. He has been a faithful example to his children and grandchildren, who have so far served a total of 12 missions in the church.
