SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- In final comments made at the close of the
LDS Church's 170th semiannual General Conference, President Gordon B.
Hinckley announced plans to build six new temples, raising the total
number of temples operating, under construction or planned to 121. 76
temples are currently in operation, with 2 more to be dedicated this
week.
Three of the new temples are planned for the United States. Hinckley
announced that temples will be built in Lubbock, Texas, Snowflake,
Arizona and the Tri-Cities of Washington state (Kennewick, Pasco and
Richland, Washington). The other three Temples, to be built outside
the United States, will be in Aba, Nigeria; Asuncion, Paraguay and
Helsinki, Finland.
Hinckley made it clear that building temples will continue as the
Church grows, "And so we will go on building temples,'' he said in
remarks following the final Conference speaker.
