Angel installed atop new Mormon temple
Reno NV Gazette-Journal 19Feb00 D1
By Rhina Guidos: Reno Gazette-Journal

RENO, NEVADA -- Due to the Church's desire not to disturb the neighbors, the setting of the Angel Moroni statue atop the new Reno temple was attended by less than 50 people. The temple's neighbors had had a previous disagreement with the Church over the lighting of the temple at night, so the Church did not broadcast the placing of the statue on the spire.

The article points out that the Angel Moroni, a 7' 2'', 700 pound sculpture is "a representation of one of the most important Mormon prophets" and "faces the east, and church members believe that with the trumpet pressed to his lips, he heralds the return to earth of Jesus Christ.
