One Dead, Hundreds Ill After Pasedena Stake Dinner

An 80-year-old woman died and as many as 200 became ill after eating dinner at a luau put on by the Pasadena Stake September 16th, and health inspectors are inspecting the kitchen where the food was prepared, looking for the cause of the illnesses. Pasedena Stake President Randall Huff told reporters that four or five people went to hospitals for brief treatment, but only the 80-year-old woman, who had pneumonia and possibly cancer in addition to the gastrointestinal ailment, died.

LDS Church Pays for TRAX for Conference Again

The LDS Church will pay for Salt Lake City's light rail system to open on Conference Sunday again. The Church paid for the system to stay open during the April General Conference to alleviate traffic problems for those attending conference in the Church's then just opened Conference Center.

Executive Committee Sees Great Future for BYU-Idaho

It was a night to look to the future as supporters of Ricks College listened to church leaders and President David A. Bednar describe the transition of the junior college to Brigham Young University-Idaho. "The Lord knows the future," Elder Henry B. Eyring said to members of the President's Club Wednesday night. "The Lord has known this opportunity was going to come here." The former Ricks president, who now serves as an Apostle and Commissioner of Education , was in Rexburg for meetings with the Executive Committee of the Ricks College Board of Trustees.

BYU hosts International Law, Religion Symposium Oct. 8-10

Brigham Young University's Seventh Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, "Comparative Constitutional Perspectives on Freedom of Religion and Belief," will be Sunday through Tuesday (Oct. 8-10) in the J. Reuben Clark Law Building. Opening the world's leading religious liberty conference, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and Brazil's Minister of Justice Elizabeth Sussekind will speak Sunday (Oct. 8) in 205 J. Reuben Clark Law Building (JRCB) at 7 p.m.

Renowned Chinese commentator focus of Lee Library exhibit

In honor of a native Utahan who became one of the most renowned women in China, the Special Collections Department at Brigham Young University will present a "Helen Foster Snow" exhibition in the Harold B. Lee Library Special Collections exhibit hall opening Friday (Oct. 13). Admission is free.

BYU offers 'Families Under Fire' conference Oct. 5-6

Brigham Young University's Division of Continuing Education and School of Family Life will host a new conference, "Families Under Fire: Making Weaknesses Our Strengths." The conference will take place Oct. 5-6 at the BYU Conference Center. The conference will feature 17 family science professionals who will speak on issues and challenges families face, said program coordinator Laurel Hornberger.

John D. Walker Recognized for Innovations in No-Till Farming

No-Till Farmer and the National No-Tillage Conference have named John D. Walker of Rexburg as the research division winner for their annual No-Till Innovator Awards program. Walker, who has been with Ricks College since 1977, will be recognized Jan. 10-13 at the ninth annual National No-Tillage Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.
