Things you miss on your mission (Some coaches already are feeling the heat)

Summarized by Kent Larsen

Things you miss on your mission (Some coaches already are feeling the heat)
Miami FL Sun-Sentinel 30Sep99 S2
By Chris Perkins

LDS Offensive lineman Faasea Mailo of the University of Southern California may have cost his team a game recently. Mailo was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he removed his helmet with 3:08 left in the game, after his team scored a go-ahead touchdown. Removing your helmet is against NCAA rules.

As a result, USC had to kick its extra point from 15 yards farther back, and was unable to make the point. USC then ended up with a tie, which was finally lost in triple overtime. Mailo, who is returning to play following his LDS mission, said he was unaware that he had broken the rule, "I guess I've been away from the game too long."
