Sports: WNBA, WUSA Seasons End, Kent over .300

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The regular seasons for the WNBA and for the nascent WUSA have ended with both Mormons in the WNBA on playoff teams. However, Kristen Rasmussen wasn't playing as much last week, and her performance was off her average for the season and while Natalie Williams was playing as much as she has during the season, her performance was off and the Utah Starzz were swept from the playoffs by the Sacramento Monarchs.

In baseball, last year's MVP Jeff Kent hit over .400 for the week, finally bringing his average for the season above .300 for the first time. But the Dodger's McKay Christensen didn't fare as well, and he was sent back to the team's AAA affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s. Among pitchers, relief pitchers Kyle Farnsworth and Dave Veres both had stellar weeks, blanking opponents over more than 3 innings each. Roy Halladay again led the starting pitchers, but with a mediocre 3.68 ERA over 7 1/3rd innings.

Meanwhile, every Mormon golfer on the PGA tour was idle during the PGA championship, leaving just Richard Zokol on the BUY.com tour, who tied for 58th in the Permian Basin Open, and Bruce Summerhays of the PGA Senior tour playing. Summerhays tied for 6th in his home state event, the Novell Utah Showdown.
